MUSIC – A new alternative to the Victoires de la Musique was born. The Flames will reward the personalities of the rap world and Afro. The greatest artists will be gathered at the Théâtre du Châtelet, in Paris, on May 11, 2023.
The creation of this new ceremony was announced in October 2022. The Flames therefore unveiled, this Tuesday, January 24, their 21 categories for their first edition. Nominations will be revealed during the month of April. These are eleven categories more than during the next ceremony music victorieson February 10 at La Seine Musicale.
During the last meeting of the Victoires de la Musique in 2022, the sch rapper received the prize for the most streamed album of the year with “JVLIVS II”, and he had underlined the absence of the French rap scene. The Marseillais, embarrassed, paid tribute to his friends: “I would like to salute Gazo, OBOY, Naps, Laylow […], I would also like to salute JUL who brought together the two capitals of French rap this year. I would like to salute Dinos, Soso Maness, Ninho the man with the certifications of course”.
For forgotten musical genres
In a press release, the Flames organization explains why it is so important to create an uninhibited ceremony: “ All the reflection around the Flames attests to the need to reflect all of these cultures as legitimately as possible. […] So that they can be celebrated, glorified, when some have too long refused to grant them the meaning that is due to them, at the height of what they represent. »

This press release does not directly accuse the Victoires de la Musique, even if they are implied.
Stemming from a common idea between several specialized media, such as YARD, Booska-P and Smile, the Flames also receive significant support, that of Spotify, which is the leading music platform in the world.
gendered categories
The categories of this new ceremony are, for the moment, gendered, as the organizers explain: “ For this first edition, the artists and revelations categories will be gendered. The choice was made following discussions within a council formed and brought together for the occasion. » A council, exclusively female, which wanted to distinguish these two categories by their gender. This is due to “context of under-representation” female artists in the world of music in France, regardless of genre.
The organizers are aware that the gender of the artist does not define his music. But they believe it will be possible” that when women will be more numerous, and more supported “. The categories are therefore not fixed, they will evolve over the years.
The jury will be made up of entertainment professionals, record companies, public figures, independents and journalists. 24 people in total. After voting anonymously to elect each category winner, the identity of the jury will be revealed to the public before the ceremony. The composition of the jury will change each year but the construction will be the same. In total the votes of the jury will count for 50% in the final result. The public will be responsible for the remaining 50%.
