A 36-year-old man went to the Rennes police station in the early afternoon to report that he had found his wife’s body at his home. The emergency services and the gendarmerie dispatched to the scene thus discovered the victim, whose death was qualified as suspicious.
Husband admits causing death
“Lesions were found on the victim’s body attesting to a death following violence,” said the public prosecutor. His 36-year-old companion was first taken into custody.
The individual was already known to justice for two convictions. He also had lesions on his body. “He quickly admitted to the investigators that he was the cause of the death of his wife following a strangulation with an extension cord which was indeed to be found in the couple’s apartment”, explained the public prosecutor on Monday. of Rennes Philippe Astruc.
The victim’s husband did not explain his gesture and spoke of a “dispute”. The couple had separated in November 2021, at the initiative of the victim.
The prosecution also indicated that an autopsy “determined death by mechanical strangulation, with the help of a link” specifying “that no old traumatic trace was found on the body of the victim” .
The suspect was charged and remanded in custody.
