The two official referees of the final of the Handball World Cup on Sunday, between France and Denmark, are suspected of having fixed matches.
Two men in turmoil. Gjorgji Nachevski and Slave Nikolov, who were on the whistle in the final of the World Championship handball 2023, were suspected of match-fixing, in a 2018 report.
The case was revealed a few days ago by a Danish media. A report indicates that 26 matches, between September 2016 and November 2017, were affected by fixing by 16 referees.
Gjorgji Nachevski and Slave Nikolov, who were referees of the World Cup final in Stockholm between France and Denmark (Danish victory 34-29), are among those concerned. But the police and the European Handball Federation had not found “substantial reasons” to sanction them.
“This case is quite old, but I have every confidence in the fact that it has been thoroughly investigated by the European federation, the Austrian police and Europol, reacted the director. of the referees of the international federation, Per Morten Sødal, interviewed by the Swedish media Sport Bladet. They found no reason to sanction these referees. Therefore, they are innocent. If there had been evidence of match fixing, it would have taken us less than a second to make a decision.
