After the two attacks that hit East Jerusalem, Emmanuel Macron condemned this Sunday an “abject attack”, but urged Israelis and Palestinians not to “feed the spiral of violence”, announced the Elysée in a press release.

Emmanuel Macron spoke by telephone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday after the attacks in East Jerusalem in less than twenty-four hours. “The President of the Republic recalled the need for all to avoid measures likely to fuel the cycle of violence,” said the Elysée in a press release.

“He once again expressed his availability to contribute to the resumption of dialogue between the Palestinians and the Israelis”, underlined the French presidency. Emmanuel Macron also offered his condolences to the Israeli people for “the victims of the terrorist attack” in which seven people died on Friday near a synagogue in East Jerusalem.

The Head of State condemned this “despicable attack” and “expressed France’s full and complete solidarity with Israel in its fight against terrorism”. He also repeated France’s “unwavering attachment to the security” of Israel.

On Saturday, a 13-year-old Palestinian opened fire and shot and wounded two Israelis in Silwan.

In front of the press, Benjamin Netanyahou had promised “a strong, rapid and precise response” after the attacks perpetrated in East Jerusalem.
