Shane Lynch, 46, gave an update on his incredible career, which spans three decades, and confessed it was time to “step down”. The Boyzone star announced his intention to leave showbusiness in a new interview, explaining that he now had to “bow out” in order to enjoy “peace and quiet”.

His latest adventure saw him join six other celebrities for a trek through Portugal as part of a new Pilgrimage series.

However, Shane said the show represents his “sayonara on television forever” as he prepares to take “a 180 degree turn”.

When asked if it was his participation in Pilgrimage that led to his decision, Shane revealed that it “sealed the deal”.

He added: “No, don’t get me wrong: the people, the team, the march were all great.

“It’s just the process of making television: the stops and starts, the cameras, the fireworks.

“I’ve played in front of 100,000 people many times and I don’t need fireworks anymore. »

The former pop star revealed in the latest issue of Radio Times: “I need some peace and quiet and to bow out.”

Shane began his career in 1993 after manager Louis Walsh, who had managed Johnny Logan, held auditions in Dublin to find a new boy band.

Shane succeeded and, along with four other Irish teenagers, including Ronan Keating and Stephen Gately, who tragically died in 2009, he had a string of successes.

The popular band reformed in 2007 for a 29-date tour and released their comeback single in September 2008, Love You Anyway.

Later that year, they released a greatest hits album titled Back Again…. No Matter What.

In 2004, during his hiatus from Boyzone, Shane appeared on television as an actor, playing Eli Knox, the chairman of Harchester United, in the Sky One television series Dream Team.

He later took part in pantomimes, and in 2016 he starred as Abanazer in the Blue Genie production of Aladdin at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.

The latest issue of Radio Times magazine is now available for sale.
