The Cameroonian selection continues to be divided between two separate staffs, a direct consequence of the persistent conflict between the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) and the Ministry of Sports for control of the Indomitable Lions.
This unprecedented situation complicates the management of the team on the eve of the Zimbabwe-Cameroon match, counting for the second day of the CAN Morocco 2025 qualifiers.
This Monday, September 9, 2024, the Cameroonian players held a training session in the hall under the supervision of the staff appointed by the Ministry of Sports. On the sidelines of these preparations, members of the Cameroonian diaspora in Uganda came to support the Indomitable Lions at their hotel.
Update on the health of the players
On the health front, defender Nouhou Tolo, who went off injured during the previous match in Garoua against Namibia, reassured his teammates and supporters.
According to Germain Noël Essengue, Team Press Officer of the Ministry of Sports, the player underwent a massage and an acupuncture session under the supervision of the head doctor, Professor Ngatchou. Tolo will nevertheless be observed more closely before taking part in the next sessions.
Two staffs in parallel
Meanwhile, the technical staff appointed by Fecafoot, installed at the Golden Tulipe hotel, participated in the pre-match technical meeting in the presence of officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Regarding the pre-match press conference, it was cancelled due to the complex situation in Kampala, where another match, Uganda vs Congo, is also taking place. However, the post-match press conference will take place as scheduled.
The Indomitable Lions will conduct their reconnaissance of the stadium this Monday at 1 p.m., and their training session is set for noon, local time, by CAF. As in the match against Namibia, the Lions will play in green jersey, red shorts and red socks.
Tensions in Group J
Despite the division between the two staffs, the players seem determined to focus on the essential: qualifying for the CAN 2025. After their joint flight from Garoua, the Indomitable Lions are preparing to face the Zimbabwean Warriors.
In the same Group J, Namibia, who left Cameroon yesterday, will face Kenya tomorrow in Johannesburg. This tense context around the Indomitable Lions could influence their performance on the field, but the team remains supported by its supporters, both in Uganda and Cameroon.
