Kings Cross evacuated as thousands of Taylor Swift fans travel to London for Wembley concert

Kings Cross station has been evacuated as thousands of Taylor Swift fans head to London for tonight’s Wembley concert.

The platforms were emptied as tannoys warned passengers of a ‘fire alert’ and police officers blocked the entrances.

Footage shared on social media showed crowds of commuters – some dressed in their sparkly finery – waiting outside, as they anxiously waited for service to resume.

It comes as tensions are high following a foiled terror plot at the singer’s Vienna gig, with a ring of steel erected around Wembley with hundreds of security personnel. 

The fire service have since confirmed that three engines attended the scene after a call point was activated, but there was no fire.

It has since been reopened, as Swifties flood into the travel hub from across the country awaiting the latest leg of the Eras tour.

Thousands of fans are gathering at Wembley stadium ahead of Taylor Swift’s run of concerts

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 1542 today (15 August) to a report that the fire alarm had been activated at Kings Cross Underground Station. 

‘Firefighters attended and following investigation, established there was no fire. Three fire engines attended the scene.’ 

But despite the quick response, fans flocked to social media as they shared their concerns.

One said: ‘Swifties don’t go to King’s Cross St Pancras station was evacuated due to an emergency x’

Another, called Katie, added: ‘Not Kings Cross being evacuated when we’re trying to get to Wembley.’

And a third – called Daisy – warned: ‘Nobody go to King’s Cross please there’s been an emergency announcement everyone’s rushing out.’

Thousands of the American songstress’ fans have gathered in their favourite outfits ahead of the first of five shows in London – the last of her European dates.

Fans are buzzing with excitement and believe they are now more safe due to the increase in security after Swift’s last concerts were axed.

Fans have been queuing for up to 30 hours ahead of Swift’s concert on Thursday

Dozens of yellow-jacketed security workers were checking tickets at the bottom of the steps leading up to the stadium on Thursday, with police officers also in attendance. 

Police are expected to be much firmer with fans who do not have tickets, and will ‘move on’ anyone who tries to gather outside the stadium to listen.

The foiled terror plot in Vienna, Austria, involved a car, knives and explosives and was reported to have targeted those gathered outside the stadium. 

The shocking event came just weeks after a Taylor Swift-themed holiday club was targeted by a knifeman in Southport in an attack which killed three young girls.

The singer posted a tribute to Bebe King, six, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, said she was at ‘a complete loss’ over the horror in an emotional tribute.   

But events haven’t put a dampener on fans’ spirits, with some waiting in line for as long as 30 hours until doors open.

The shows will have a different support act each day starting with instrumentalist Sofia Isella and also including Brit Award-winner Raye, Daisy Jones & the Six star Suki Waterhouse and rising stars, Maisie Peters and Holly Humberstone.
