“Too much at home at OL”

As she had already done in her career as a professional player, with a stint in America between her two stints at Olympique Lyonnais, Sonia Bompastor chose to go abroad this summer.

Now in charge of Chelsea's women's team, the 44-year-old native of Blois was interviewed by the club's channel about this new adventure, and also spoke, in English of course, about her departure from her long-time club, after three seasons of coaching at OL.

The English championship, “one of the most competitive in the world”

There are probably other reasons for her departure from the Rhone club, but Sonia Bompastor indicated in this interview that she felt “too much at home, I stayed in my comfort zone. I knew the club by heart and everything was too familiar to me.”

She also spoke of the “very competitive level of the English championship, perhaps one of the most competitive in the world” and her desire to “take on these kinds of new challenges in her personal and professional life”.
