Seven dead and three injured in building fire in Nice

The fire broke out at around 2:30 a.m. in a building in the working-class Moulins district of Nice. The city’s prosecutor said that “criminal suspicion was being favored.”

A building fire has caused seven victims and three injured, Thursday morning, in the Moulins district of Nice.

The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on the seventh floor of a popular building on Rue de la Santoline.

Three children and a teenager were among the victims. One person was also taken to hospital in “absolute emergency”, and two others in “relative emergency”.

The resigned Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin reacted to the tragedy on his X account, stating that “The police will shed light on the circumstances of this terrible tragedy”.

French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed his support for the victims’ relatives, as did the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.

The preferred criminal track

While the exact causes of this tragedy remain unknown, The Nice prosecutor said that the criminal track was favored.

On his X account, the first deputy mayor of Nice, Anthony Borré, declared that he was in possession of images showing “three hooded individuals entered the building before the incident”.

The prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Hugues Moutouh, specified that *the apartment was occupied by “a family clearly of Comorian origin”**.*

An investigation into arson resulting in death has been opened by the Nice prosecutor.
