MRC calls Mfoundi prefect a “terrorist”

In a statement signed by Joseph Emmanuel Ateba, the national secretary for communication of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), Maurice Kamto’s party indicates that the order of the prefect of Mfoundi intends to ban certain citizens from staying in the department of Mfoundi is a terrorist act.

“It was with astonishment that we discovered on social networks the decree n° 00001436 of 16/07/2024 of the Prefect of Mfoundi temporarily banning stay in the department of Mfoundi,” wrote Maurice Kamto’s party at the start of its press release.

“The Prefect of Mfoundi, like his supervisory Minister, from whom he would probably have received instructions for this outing, has decided to drag Cameroon through the mud. It is unimaginable that in 2024 we will still be considering deportations in Cameroon. This brings back painful memories of the colonial era,” added Odza’s party.

According to the MRC, “the decree of the Prefect of Mfoundi flagrantly violates Cameroon’s conventional commitments at the international level, the Constitution of Cameroon, various Cameroonian laws on citizens’ freedoms, the Penal Code, in particular its article 153, as well as decree 2008/377 of November 12, 2008 establishing the attributions of the heads of administrative districts which it cites without complying with it, in short it is totally illegal.

This is neither more nor less than a terrorist act, within the meaning of Law No. 2014-28 of December 23, 2014 on the repression of acts of terrorism. Indeed, under the terms of Article 2-1 (a) of this liberticidal law, any act or threat of an act committed with the intention of “intimidating the population, provoking a situation of terror or forcing the victim” (…) to perform or refrain from performing any act, to adopt or renounce a particular position or to act according to certain principles” is a terrorist act. However, the order of the Prefect of Mfoundi aims to spread terror among the many Cameroonians who are legitimately angry at the chronic incompetence of the BIYA-RDPC regime and its disastrous record.

Joseph Emmanuel Ateba is firm “this untimely statement by the Prefect of Mfoundi targets the opposition political parties with the aim of depriving them of any space for expression in Yaoundé, the capital of our country, before, during and after the electoral campaign of the upcoming presidential exam.”

The MRC invites all forces of the nation to act for the protection of their rights. “In view of the above, we invite democrats, republicans, pacifists to be ready to defend, without any weakness, peace, democracy against hatred, electoral fraud, violence, arrogance, the worst policy of dictatorship, the political terrorism of the Biya-RDPC regime, of which the Prefect of Mfoundi is only another zealous agent.

Cameroonians must jealously guard the respect of their painfully acquired rights. It is up to each of us to do our part. As for the MRC, it will always do its part and will always be on the side of the Constitution, the laws and the people,” the press release concludes.

This exit of the MRC follows an order signed a few days ago by the prefect of Mfoundi. In this order, Emmanuel Mariel Djikdent threatens to ban from staying in the department of Mfoundi, all the people who call for an uprising against the institutions of the Republic.
