On Wednesday, July 17, Patrick Bruel sent a warning message to his Instagram followers: imposter accounts are trying to get money from his fans by pretending to be the singer.
It is a phenomenon that affects more and more personalities. In recent years, many stars have warned their fans against identity theft by counterfeiters who then try to steal money from the less vigilant. The list of stars affected is very long: Vincent Cassel, Carole Bouquet, Michel Sardou, Slimane, Gil Alma, Lorie Pester, Iris Mittenaere and Camille Cerf to name only the most recent. Last December, the singer Louane even apologized to her subscribers for the inconvenience: “I only have one Insta account and it’s this oneI will never ask you to send me money via PayPal, transcash or other. I have been informed of the existence of several fan accounts, if you see them please report them. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” she wrote.
“Continue to be vigilant”
Stories of forgers that can sometimes go very far, like when a young boy of only 12 years old created a Twitter account using the name of Jean-Luc Reichmann, pretending to be the host… for no less than 6 years! If this case is funny, others are much less so since fans of artists sometimes have large sums of money stolen from them due to lack of vigilance. This Wednesday, it’s Patrick Bruel who in turn wanted to warn his subscribers on social networks after being contacted by one of them.
In his story, the 65-year-old singer shared a screenshot of this fan, who received a subscription request and a message from an account titled “patrick_bruel_fan_0000″. “But When will all these imposters understand that we have a brain? ?!” wrote this Internet user angrily. A weariness shared by the singer: “Thank you! Continue to be vigilant with fake accounts” he wrote in turn. Among stars on social networks, vigilance is indeed required.
