On Tuesday July 16, Julien Arnaud spoke to viewers of 8 p.m. of TF1 to apologize to them after a big mistake. The reason? The broadcast the day before in a report of the photo of a man, suspected of having shot three people and who was in reality perfectly innocent.
In the corridors of TF1, be careful who will answer you if you call Julien Arnaud. Because for several years now, it is not one but two journalists who have the same first and last names within the group, and even within the channel since the youngest announced that he was leaving LCI to join Bruce Toussaint’s team in Good morning! The Morning Show next fall. A situation that is at least incongruous, which the eldest, a joker on the 8pm news, had made fun of during his appearance on On refait la télé on RTL last May.
“In the seven years that I have been at TF1, I have received almost no letters, no books, no packages, everything goes straight to your mailbox. So I wanted to know if you could do a little something…” he had confided, also revealing that he had received the bonuses from his namesake. But this Tuesday evening, Julien Arnaud would probably not have wanted to exchange places with Julien Arnaud.
Suspect error
At the controls of the 8 p.m. instead of Anne-Claire Coudray for the summer holidays, the journalist received Gabriel Attal, who had just resigned from his post as Prime Minister. But before that, the host wanted to address the viewers to apologize on behalf of the editorial staff of the 8 p.m.. The day before, a big mistake was indeed committed during the newspaper: during a subject on the shooting in Espinasse-Vozelle in Allier which cost the lives of four people, including the shooter who committed suicide, the latter’s photo was broadcast on air.
Except it wasn’t actually the killer at all, but a man who had nothing to do with this story. “In this newspaper last night, we mistakenly presented this photo as being that of the shooter, based on information given by several sources close to the investigation. In fact, it is a man who is in no way connected to this case and who is obviously very much alive. We obviously offer our sincere apologies to him, as well as to you, the viewers.” Julien Arnaud explained this Tuesday evening, the day after this very big blunder. Enough to regret, for once, not having been a simple joker.
