The minor suspected of having planned “a violent action” in Angers during the July 14 weekend was indicted on Monday, in particular for “criminal association”.
This 16-year-old from Angers, unknown to the justice system and the police, was arrested on Saturday morning by police officers from the Angers Organized and Specialized Crime Division. His arrest was announced on X, late Saturday, by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
“He was thinking about how to do it.”
The teenager was spotted by the intelligence services because of exchanges in June on social networks in which he was inquiring about how to go about committing a violent act. “At one point, in these conversations, the date of July 14 is mentioned, among other things. He was thinking about how to do it,” explained Angers public prosecutor Eric Bouillard, who did not specify what type of action was planned. “There is no evidence of concrete preparation for an action. There is no material act that would allow us to say that an attack was foiled,” he said.
Under judicial supervision
The minor was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit dangerous damage and criminal conspiracy to commit a crime and placed under judicial supervision.
Some 130,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized Saturday and Sunday across France to ensure the smooth running of the July 14 festivities, two weeks before the opening of the Olympic Games, according to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
