Spanish fans were out in force last night to celebrate their team’s fourth victory in the European Championship.
ADVERTISEMENTLa Roja won the Euro 2024 football tournament for the greatest joy of the many fans gathered in the streets of Madrid and throughout Spain.
The Spanish won 2-1 against England on Sunday evening, in a tense finale at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
A “fiercely contested” final
After an indecisive first half, Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain early in the second half.
While the Spanish seemed to be heading straight for an easy victory, Cole Palmer equalised for England just minutes after coming on as a substitute.
The winning goal was scored four minutes from the end of the match by Mikel Oyarzabal.on an assist from Marc Cucurella.
“The final was hard fought, but we came through. We are all very proud of them.” says Spanish fan Antonio Gelmires.
“It was a very difficult match but we deserved to win and we are here to celebrate the cup”adds another fan, Ramiro Fuertes.
With this 4th coronation, Spain becomes the most successful nation in the European Championship, ahead of Germany who have won it 3 times.
