Greenwood to OM, the final decision

Mason Greenwood has reportedly asked for time to consider a move from Manchester United to Marseille after sparking outrage among fans.

The 22-year-old forward is set to cut ties with the Red Devils this summer after a productive loan spell at Getafe in 2023-24 that saw him win the Madrid club’s Player of the Season award, with clubs from across Europe showing interest.

The Ligue 1 side appeared to be leading the way, with former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi giving the green light to a deal with his new employers in France, but disgruntled supporters have launched an online #GreenwoodNotWelcome campaign.

Disgruntled supporters

The mayor of Marseille also spoke out against a transfer of a man whose charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour were dropped in February 2023. Benoit Payan said, when a €32 million transaction was being discussed: ” Greenwood’s behavior is unspeakable, unacceptable.”

According to Corriere dello Sport, Greenwood ” asked for time, being shaken by the revolt of the Marseille ultras and by the diktat of the mayor of Marseille. A decision is expected to be made soon, with the one-cap England international eager to find out where he stands for the 2024-25 campaign as pre-season gets underway.
