In an Instagram post published on Sunday evening, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher revealed his homosexuality. “The best thing in life is to have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything,” he wrote in the caption of a photo showing him arm in arm with his partner in front of a sunset and a bay.
A courageous and rare act, while homosexuality remains taboo in the world of sport, and in particular in Formula 1. At 49, the brother of Michael Schumacher (7 times world champion and in a coma since 2013) spent 10 years in Formula 1, between 1997 and 2007, participating in 180 races and winning six times. He was married for 14 years to the German television presenter and model Cora Brinkmann, with whom he had a child before divorcing in 2015.
