To mark 100 days of his presidency, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye gave an interview to the Senegalese press.
An opportunity for the head of state to clarify once again his relations with his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, his political mentor.
Faced with those who believe that the Prime Minister would overshadow him and would eye his seat, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye assures that he encourages Ousmane Sonko to look at the seat. Better, Bassirou Diomaye Faye believes that he will continue to work so that Ousmane Sonko one day becomes President of Senegal.
“I have no problem with my Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. I encourage him not only to eye the chair, but also to look at the chair clearly. Because for 10 years I fought alongside him for him to occupy the presidential chair. I have not stopped and I will never stop,” said President Bassirou Diomaye.
“I sincerely hope that he becomes President of the Republic because I know him. I hope so because I know he can fulfil the role and because I wish peace for Senegal,” added Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The Senegalese head of state also has every idea of having problems with Ousmane Sonko because he would overshadow him. “I evolved under his shadow for 10 years, fighting with complete loyalty. I am not afraid that he will overshadow me,” said Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
