Seine-Saint-Denis: 30-year-old man shot dead amid drug trafficking

A 30-year-old man was shot dead this Sunday in Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis). The events took place around 3 p.m., near the Cité de la Capsulerie, considered the most profitable drug dealing point in Île-de-France.

“Two people on a scooter shot the victim at point-blank range,” a police source said. They are on the run. The deceased man had been the victim of an attempted murder with a knife in 2018, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office said. The criminal brigade has been called in to investigate.

“Start-stups nation”

In a report published in May, a Senate inquiry commission painted a picture of a France overwhelmed by drug trafficking, which is spreading across the country in a “start-stups nation” fashion, with a surge in violence linked to competition between criminal organizations. According to the senators, the turnover of drug trafficking in France is estimated at between three and six billion euros per year.

In total, 315 cases of homicide or attempted homicide linked to drug trafficking were recorded in France between January and November 2023 in police areas, an increase of 57% over one year, according to the police.
