Roanne: two young men, accused of rape by two women, taken into police custody and released

They were released but the investigation is continuing, according to the Roanne (Loire) prosecutor’s office. Two young men were taken into custody after complaints were filed by two young women, who accuse them of rape on the night of June 22 to 23, in Roanne, Xavier Laurent, the city’s public prosecutor, told Le Parisien on Sunday, confirming information from Le Pays.

The events allegedly took place on the night of June 22 to 23, the day after the Fête de la Musique in Roanne. Two women, aged 18 and 20, filed a complaint, claiming to have been subjected to non-consensual sexual acts by these two men, whom they had met earlier in the evening and whom they did not know.

Hearings and expert assessments expected

A preliminary investigation was opened after the two young women filed a complaint, said the Roanne public prosecutor.

The two accused, two boys aged 17 and 22, were arrested and taken into custody. After their hearings, they were released. “The suspects denied any responsibility for the alleged facts,” said Xavier Laurent.

Nevertheless, the investigation is continuing, the prosecutor states. “The custody measures have been lifted pending the return of additional investigative elements, in particular hearings and expert reports, to be reported as part of the preliminary investigation which is continuing to this day,” he explains.
