Emotion, sport, heritage, spectacle and a tribute to the firefighters. It was a bit of all that, this Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m., on the forecourt of Notre-Dame Cathedral. Parisians, tourists, onlookers, some “who came by chance”, local residents pushed each other in a good-natured atmosphere, waiting for the arrival of the Olympic flame.
The stopover was considered particularly symbolic, as was the presence of the Paris firefighters, more than five years after the fire that nearly destroyed the entire building. “We were just now on the terrace of the Deux Magots, on Boulevard Saint-Germain,” confided Fiona and Craig, Scottish tourists who came with their children. “We saw the flame go by. But we wanted to be at Notre-Dame. Here, it’s iconic. It’s tea symbol of Paris!”
