Burkina Faso threatens to withdraw from the African Union and the UN

Burkina Faso does not rule out leaving the African Union and the United Nations. For Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélem de Tambèla, this option is possible if these organizations do not review their neocolonialist stance.

The assertion of sovereignty in Burkina Faso has no limits. For the military regime in power in Ouagadougou, a withdrawal from the African Union and even from the Nations is not excluded if these organizations continue to adopt neocolonialist postures.

“We are watching the African Union, if it behaves like ECOWAS we will leave it, and even the UN is not excluded,” declared the Prime Minister. A statement that sounds like a warning to regional or international organizations, of which the country is still a member.

This threat of withdrawal came after remarks by the African Union Commissioner at the last ECOWAS summit in Abuja. The envoy had described the withdrawal of the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (ESA) as unacceptable. This had provoked the anger of Bamako, Ouagadougou and Niamey who made this known via a joint statement.
