The Western powers’ unconditional support for Israel’s murderous offensive on Gaza will continue at the cost of violating their own principles, “influenced in part by the shame” of the Nazi Holocaust, the Turkish president said.
“Except for a few brave souls,” there has been little visible reaction from Western media to the horrors of Israel’s nine-month offensive on Gaza, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, adding: “They have ignored the genocide, ignored the cries of the oppressed.”
Also criticizing the Muslim world for its inaction in the face of the carnage in Gaza, Erdogan added that not only international organizations but also institutions in the Muslim world have failed “to pass the test on Gaza.”
“While rightly criticizing the Western world for the massacres in Gaza, I believe that Muslims must also hold themselves accountable,” Erdogan said. “With a population of over 2 billion and an economic power exceeding trillions of dollars, it is incumbent upon all of us to ask ourselves why the Islamic world cannot influence Israel,” he added.
The statements come as the massacre of women and children continues in Gaza, where Israel is bombing everything in its path with weapons supplied by Western countries.
Israel’s war on Gaza has lasted 281 days and has killed at least 38,443 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 88,481, including more than 10,000 believed to be buried under the rubble and more than 9,500 believed to have been abducted by Tel Aviv.
