A local businessman, identified as Patrick from Bamenda, was found dead in his apartment in Yaounde on Monday, July 8, 2024.
According to neighbours, Patrick, who previously lived in Douala and worked in import/export, had recently moved to the Mvog Betsi neighbourhood of Yaoundé.
Details surrounding Patrick’s death have not yet been released. Neighbours reported seeing him return home around 9pm on Sunday 7 July after a night of heavy drinking.
Early Monday morning, neighbors found Patrick dead in his locked apartment. Authorities believe he may have been the victim of a violent attack. His attackers reportedly cut major veins in both of his hands before fleeing the scene and locking the door.
Heavy rain and lack of electricity that night may have hampered Patrick’s attempts to call for help.
The Yaounde city hall and the police are currently investigating the incident. Patrick’s family members were also at the scene and his body was taken to the Yaounde morgue.
This is a developing story. We will provide further updates as they become available.
Mimi Mefo Infos –
Mimi Mefo Info (MMI) is an independent online news reporting network based in the UK, Germany and Cameroon. We have reporters in most of Cameroon’s ten regions, bringing you independent news on a daily basis. MMI is not affiliated with any government or organisation. As such, we report the news objectively, with the aim of encouraging freedom of the press and expression, holding authorities to account and encouraging a system of citizen journalism where Cameroonians from all walks of life can make their stories known.
Despite the hostile media environment in Cameroon, where journalists are constantly harassed, arrested or killed, MMI believes that the only way to overcome this situation is to create a reporting structure where journalists are free to work without endangering their safety. Thus, although MMI is registered in the UK and its management is based in Cameroon, the journalists who cover the news on a daily basis reside in different regions of Cameroon.
MMI also covers news from different countries in Africa and around the world. These are often stories authenticated by local media sources. The aim is to amplify the voices of others in these countries and provide the Cameroonian public with up-to-date information on events in other parts of the continent and the world.
We believe that information is power and should be used to shape society for the benefit of all. We believe that everyone benefits when we embrace and value the diversity of thoughts, ideas and ways of working that people of different backgrounds, experiences and identities bring.
