He has had four coaches at Paris Saint-Germain: Laurent Blanc, Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino. But the Frenchman will remain his favourite. In an interview with France Football, Angel Di Maria looked back on his seven years in the French capital (2015-2022).
He spent one season with Laurent Blanc there, in 2015-2016. PSG was crowned Ligue 1 champion but eliminated by Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Argentinian still has good memories of the French coach. He is even the coach he preferred at the club: “If I have to keep one, I think Blanc had developed an attractive style of play with us. It was the season when I had the most fun playing football in Paris.”
“We played spectacular football”
PSG had also won the Champions Trophy, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. A clean sweep on a national scale. “It was impossible to take the ball away from Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti in midfield, with Blaise Matuidi constantly going up and down. We were playing spectacular football, with Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Pocho (Lavezzi) and Pastore in front. It was an incredible first season for me, it left a big impression on me.”
Angel Di Maria is playing in the Copa America final with the Argentine national team, at 2am on Saturday night. Against Colombia, he will have the opportunity to further expand his international record after winning the event in 2021 and the World Cup in 2022. This should be his last competition with Argentina.
