Parcoursup: more than 85,000 candidates remain waiting for an assignment

The main admission phase ended on Friday, July 11. More than 85,000 candidates on Parcoursup are still waiting for a proposal for a higher education placement for the next academic year. As Le Parisien reported on Friday, 9 out of 10 high school students have received at least one proposal.

According to figures from the Ministry of Higher Education, which takes into account the final results of the baccalaureate, 85,020 candidates did not have an offer of assignment at the end of this phase, out of a total of 848,917: 40,379 high school students, 26,882 students requesting reorientation and 17,759 candidates educated abroad.

There were 77,000 who had not received any offers last year at the same time, and 94,000 two years ago.

The number of candidates is increasing

” It is more (of candidates pending) than last year, but we must take into consideration that there were 22,000 more candidates this year in the student and high school area alone,” explained to AFP Jérôme Teillard, Parcoursup project manager for the Ministry of Higher Education.

The number of high school students registered on the platform (645,076) is in fact up 2.5% compared to 2023, and that of students (169,387) has increased by 3.7% over one year, the ministry said in a press release.

Of this total, 580,291 high school graduates and 134,595 students received at least one admission offer, compared to 570,107 and 131,864 respectively in 2023 (while 24,406 high school students and 7,910 students left the platform before receiving an offer).

“The procedure worked more efficiently” with “more proposals”, and “moving faster”, with 2.4 million proposals on the first day (+17% compared to 2023), underlined Jérôme Teillard.

Places available

In parallel with the main admission phase, a complementary phase opened on June 11 and will end on September 12. It allows candidates to formulate up to ten new wishes in the courses that still have places available.

In this context, “more than 6,800 training courses still offer more than 114,000 vacant places” to date, which is more than the 100,000 places in 2023, the ministry explains. In 2023, 79,000 candidates had received an admission offer thanks to this additional phase.

Since the beginning of July, candidates who have not yet received an admission offer can also contact the higher education access commission (CAES) of their academy to receive personalized support.

According to the ministry, to date, 2,352 high school graduates and 268 students have already requested support from the CAES of their academy. Last year, the ministry counted 148 high school graduates without an assignment at the end of September, at the end of the procedure.
