Lamine Yamal has revealed that Kylian Mbappe asked him for his jersey after his goal and Spain’s victory in France in the Euro 2024 semi-final.
In an interview with Marca after the semi-final and ahead of the Euro 2024 final against England, Yamal was asked if any players had asked him for his shirt during the tournament, when he was just 16.
Yamal scored what could have been the goal of the tournament as Spain beat France to reach the final for the first time since 2012. With his career potential unknown, his jersey worn in the semi-final in particular, but also in any Euro 2024 match, will be insanely valuable and coveted over time, especially if he follows a similar trajectory to Lionel Messi. Many footballers enjoy collecting jerseys of players they have faced and Mbappe clearly seized the opportunity to secure a great one for his archives.
Mbappé wanted Yamal’s jersey
Lamine Yamal revealed it in the press: “ Mbappé asked [mon maillot contre la France]as well as an equipment attendant in the locker room and [Federico] Chiesa: If Mbappé asks me, I’ll give it to him. [rires]. There is no problem. When we won against France, I was thinking about the final, you are so excited that you don’t remember it anymore.
England are between Spain and the Euro trophy. Gareth Southgate’s team have been pragmatic and have found ways to win opportunistically rather than consistently playing well. That’s what makes them even more dangerous because of their unpredictability.
