On July 9, a buffalo burst into the town of Touboro, causing panic among the inhabitants. According to consistent testimonies collected on the ground, the buffalo broke away from the herd in Tollere, a small town located about five kilometers outside Tchollire towards Guidjiba.
During its journey, the buffalo crossed Laboun, located ten kilometers east of Tchollire, and injured a farmer before ending up in Voye, west of Touboro. Once in the city, the buffalo ended up at the official residence of the Sub-Prefect of the Touboro district, where it injured a man. The police, once alerted, secured the population and were able to escort the buffalo from the Sub-Prefect’s residence along the main road from the Ngumi crossroads to the Biltiou neighborhood. Having fallen into a pool of water in this neighborhood, the buffalo was reportedly stunned by a resident late in the night of July 9 to 10.
The passage of this buffalo in a city whose name and history are associated with this food animal, the comments and various interpretations. For rationalists and scientists, the irruption of any animal is an isolated phenomenon in our society. Mayo Rey is home to two National Parks where animals abound that can get lost, end up in cities and villages, and cause various damage. According to some patriarchs consulted, this is the third time that ferocious animals of this ilk have burst into the residence of the Sub-prefect or the District Chief of Touboro.
An observer also claims that it is the position of the official residence of the representative of the Head of State that would favor the unexpected visit of stray animals such as monkeys, buffaloes, buffalo ears, antelopes … On the metaphysical and superstitious level, there are a thousand and one interpretations that have nothing to do with rationality. Some believe that the spirit of Chief Mbay Bol simply came to visit his grandchildren and inquire about the news of the village, while others interpret this buffalo story in another way.
Touboro is a village belonging to Mbay Bol, master of the buffalo and one of the first chiefs of Touboro. Some believe that the passage of the buffalo in Touboro, a village to which Mbay Bol gave a certain name, can attract attention. It is through his hunting activities, his generosity and his largesse recognized by all that he truly became known. A great dancer of heritage rhythms and an outstanding drummer of the tam-tams, he maintained special relations with Burabe. From the beginning, Mbay Bol had mastered the art of camouflage, transforming himself into various animals to hunt in the bush. He would also transform himself into a termite mound or a clod of earth in the event of violent attacks by wounded wild beasts.
Bouba Ganzamai, a retired administrative commissioner and accountant, said that the passage of the buffalo in Touboro was a message sent to the city authorities, inviting them to make strategic decisions to avoid the worst in a context marked by the socio-political and cultural demands of the indigenous peoples of the locality.
