A Cameroonian national, William Chedjou, was stabbed to death in the German capital Berlin on July 11, 2024, the Cameroonian embassy in Berlin said.
Chedjou, 37, was killed during a fight over a parking space in the Gesundbrunnen district.
He had a trivial altercation with a 29-year-old German-Turkish man in a public car park, which escalated into a violent altercation.
The victim was stabbed in the stomach and despite the rapid intervention of the police emergency services, he died in hospital from serious injuries.
The Cameroonian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany expressed shock and sadness over the incident and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
“As soon as I received this terrible news, I immediately contacted the German authorities, particularly those in Berlin, to gather further information on the incident,” the ambassador said in a July 12 statement.
“I have been informed that the alleged perpetrator has been apprehended and a criminal investigation is currently underway.”
The Ambassador assured the Cameroonian community that the Embassy is closely following the progress of the investigation and the resulting legal proceedings.
He called on his compatriots to remain calm and reflect, urging them to wait for the outcome of the official investigation before taking any action.
“This is a time of great sadness for our community. We must come together in our grief and support each other during this tragic time,” the ambassador said.
“Let us remain calm and let the judicial process take its course, so that justice can be done for our deceased compatriot.”
