Wolf attacks: in Isère, cows have been equipped with a GPS collar

In the mountainous region of Matheysine, south of Isère, this tool is being tested for the first time to try to stop wolf attacks on cattle, which are increasingly numerous. “We had 85 requests for reports of wolf attacks on cattle between 2020 and 2022,” reports Solène Abert, agricultural officer at the Matheysine community of communes. In 2023, a herd of 92 cattle disappeared for several days after being attacked by one or more wolves. It seems that a pack has specialized in cattle in the area, because it would cross herds of sheep without touching them to directly attack the cows, which provide more meat.”
