In central Gaza, one of Gaza City’s main hospitals was able to partially resume operations, just days after evacuating its patients and staff.

The hospital was abandoned after the Israeli army ordered parts of the city to be evacuated in preparation for an offensive. The IDF later said it had informed hospitals and other medical facilities that they did not need to be evacuated.

With the reopening, 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are now partially functioning, according to UN figures.

The reopening of Al-Alhi hospital comes amid ongoing new negotiations. Israel is expected to send a delegation to Cairo to discuss with mediators a new proposal for a deal with Hamas for a ceasefire and the release of hostages, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Thursday.

In recent days, Israel has launched a new offensive in the northern, southern and central Gaza Strip, which may be aimed at increasing pressure on Hamas in the context of these ceasefire negotiations, the Associated Press reports.
