Maurice Kamto condemns attacks on Brenda Biya’s lesbianism

By David Atangana

The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) party, Maurice Kamtoa condemned the attacks against President Paul Biya’s daughter, Brenda Biya, who recently publicly embraced lesbianism.

The backlash follows verbal attacks on the first daughter after she publicly came out as a lesbian.

Describing the attacks as “intolerant,” Professor Maurice Kamto, however, described Brenda Biya’s actions as “shameful, unjust and cruel.”

“We strongly condemn intolerance and vile attacks based solely on sexual orientation,” Maurice Kamto said in a statement.

He added: “These shameful behaviors betray our humanity and tarnish our nation.”

Brenda Biya has caused a stir on social media, attracting criticism after sharing photos of her intimate moments with another woman.

This was contrary to national laws, which strongly oppose same-sex relationships.

However, Maurice Kamto, who is a staunch critic of President Paul Biya, said: “Every Cameroonian deserves love, respect and dignity.”

He added: “The greatness of our country is also measured by its ability to protect and love each of its children. Those who spread hatred and intolerance condemn themselves to isolation.”

“Cameroon, our dear country, must shine through its tolerance and humanity. We call on all citizens to stand up against hatred and defend the right of everyone to live freely and without fear,” Mr. Kamto continued.

Many Cameroonians are still waiting to see if Brenda Biya will be prosecuted like other people who have identified as LGBTQ in the country.
