The recent revelation of the homosexuality of Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroonian President Paul Biya, has provoked strong reactions in her country where homosexuality is a serious abomination. In an act of defiance towards her native country, which criminalizes homosexuality, she published, on June 30, Pride month, a photo of herself and her partner, a Brazilian model, kissing, wrapped in the flamboyant trains of their fur coats.
“I’m crazy about you and I want the world to know it.”,
captioned the 26-year-old girl, who lives in Geneva.
Since then, Brenda Biya has been facing a complaint from the Yaoundé prosecutor for “incitement to the practice of homosexuality”In Cameroon, sexual relations between people of the same sex are illegal and punishable by penalties ranging from six months to five years in prison.
“The photo remained (…) on my Instagram for several hours (…). She was liked, reposted (…) by many blogs, even in Africa, in Europe (…) and it kind of went downhill from there.”,
she commented in a recent TikTok video.
“The media spin is not necessarily bad on all points because, even if there are people who criticize, there are people in Europe who welcome the step and who see it as perhaps an effort to make a change in the law of Cameroon”,
she continues facing the camera.
“I received a lot of negative comments (…), insults, I also received a lot of support from LGBT+ communities and organizations or people who did not feel represented in Cameroon”,
she added.
Bitterness
At the presidential palace, there was no reaction from his father, 91, who has been in power for almost forty-five years.
Brenda Biya’s photo was deleted on her Instagram and the young woman expressed her bitterness. Other images of the couple, now separated and that she formed with her model friend, sexual photos, were indeed leaked without her consent on her Instagram account. On TikTok, Brenda Biya accused her former lover of revealing their
“intimate photos online to attract the attention of followers and maybe even [soutirer] money “.
Justice
The Cameroonian people are demanding the arrest of the president’s daughter upon her arrival in Cameroon to demonstrate that justice is not applied at double speed in Yaoundé. Other Internet users, on the other hand, find Brenda Biya bipolar, and are asking for her to be helped, because she has not been consistent for a while. For the latter, it is divine justice that is falling on Paul Biya’s only daughter, after all the suffering that her family has allegedly made the Cameroonian people undergo since 1982.
