A 14-year-old boy was indicted on Thursday, suspected of being a “supporter of the Islamic State” and of having “participated” in chat groups on planned attacks, the national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office (Pnat) said on Friday, confirming a source close to the case.
His indictment is the third in this case, where two other adolescents, aged 18 and 15, were also indicted in mid-May for criminal terrorist association.
Placed under judicial supervision
This 14-year-old minor, originally from Drôme, was arrested on Tuesday. After being questioned by investigators and an investigating judge, he was placed under judicial supervision on Thursday and is subject to a placement measure, according to the Pnat. He is suspected of having “participated in several conspiratorial groups on social networks on which various plans for attacks were discussed, in different parts of the territory, at more or less distant deadlines”, specified the public prosecutor.
“The Olympic period was mentioned” but “it seems abusive to talk about a plan for violent action specifically targeting the Olympic Games,” stressed a source close to the case. At the time of the indictment of the first two, the Pnat had indicated that these plans envisaged “coordinated attacks in the short term.”
“Bars, barracks, nightclubs in Paris”
A second source close to the case said that “bars, barracks, nightclubs in Paris” had been mentioned, without naming any establishments. According to two sources close to the case, investigators found knives and a machete at the adult’s home. He was placed in pre-trial detention.
According to several sources close to the case, the three young people seem to be “searching for identity”: one of them practiced the Christian religion and was interested in far-right ideas before becoming radicalized on social networks, attracted by jihadist theories.
