Government spokesperson Prisca Thevenot “and her team” claim to have suffered “an attack during an operation to put up election posters” on Wednesday evening in Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine), four days before the second round of the legislative elections, announced the minister’s entourage.
Complaint filed
“The police intervened quickly. The minister was able to file a complaint,” the same source said. Prisca Thevenot “will continue her campaign on the ground as planned until Friday evening.”
The minister’s entourage did not wish to provide further details on the circumstances of this attack.
According to a source close to the case, Prisca Thevenot and one of her colleagues were attacked by around twenty people around 8 p.m.
2 to 3 people arrested
While the minister, who is running for re-election in the 8th constituency of Hauts-de-Seine, was not hit, her colleague was injured in the arm. 2 to 3 people were arrested, the same source added.
“Deeply shocked by the attack on Prisca Thevenot and her deputy in Meudon. Violence has no place in our democracy,” reacted on X the Minister of Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné, himself a candidate in this department.
“Support for Prisca Thevenot and Virginie Lanlo attacked this evening in Meudon-la-Forêt, all my best wishes for a speedy recovery….and success on Sunday,” wrote on the same social network the head of the centrist senators Hervé Marseille, elected representative of Hauts-de-Seine.
