Outside of the competition venues, it will be possible this summer to experience the Olympic Games in the festivities scattered around Paris. The City has set up 23 of them – at least one per arrondissement – as well as three Paris Plages sites near the capital’s water points (see box). This list is completed by the two flagship locations of Paris 2024: the Champions Park at Trocadéro and the Club France at Parc de la Villette.
Paris Plages, the opportunity to take a dip
In addition to the two usual Paris Plages sites, at Bassin de la Villette (19th arrondissement) and on the banks of the Seine (1st and 4th arrondissements), the capital is opening a new site this summer, on the banks of the Canal Saint-Martin (10th arrondissement). On the program: sports and cultural activities, dance classes, exhibitions, refreshments and catering… and swimming.
“The Terrace of Games” as the epicenter of the party
Most of these places will allow you to watch the events on a giant screen, participate in sports activities or eat. Other places will offer exhibitions, debates, screenings around the major themes of sport, climate, economy and inclusion. During the Olympic and Paralympic Games period, these places will be open between 10am and 11pm, most with a capacity of 500 people.
One of the most important sites will be on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville. Called “La Terrasse des Jeux”, it will open its doors on July 14 and is designed to accommodate 2,500 people at the same time. Also on the program there, sports activities (2 multi-sports grounds, a dojo, a city stadium, an athletics track and a climbing wall), giant screens, a terrace with a view of the Seine, a cultural program and it is even rumored that some athletes could go there to celebrate the Games with the public.
