The OL management has made a final decision regarding the future of its coach Pierre Sage.
It took them a while, but they finally made the right choice. Lyon officials have just confirmed Pierre Sage as their coach for the upcoming campaign. Better yet, they have even offered him a contract extension until 2026.
The information was made official through a press release on the club’s website: “Olympique Lyonnais is very pleased to announce the official appointment of Pierre Sage as coach of the professional team for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2026.”
Pierre Sage remains the boss of OL
Arriving as an interim on November 30, 2023, Sage has done a remarkable job in gradually turning the club around during an exceptional second half of the season. Last in Ligue 1 at the start of December with only 7 points on the clock, OL has radically transformed its game under the direction of the former academy director, recognized and appreciated for his deep football expertise, his rigorous tactical approach and his serenity.
With 46 points collected in 22 league matches, OL had one of the best second halves of a season in its history, punctuated by direct qualification for the Europa League by finishing in 6th place in the league and participation in the Coupe de France final against PSG.
The technical staff is evolving
What will change for Sage, however, is the composition of its staff. Three new members will join its team, namely Jorge Maciel (responsible for training methodology), Rui Lemos (athletic preparation) and Denis Velour (performance coordinator).
