End of application period
215 candidates qualified for the second round of the legislative elections had announced their withdrawal on Tuesday at 6 p.m., the last deadline to act on their retention or withdrawal, according to a count by Le Parisien. The vast majority of these are members of the left-wing New Popular Front and the Macronist coalition.
RN aims for absolute majority
By limiting the triangular and quadrangular, the objective is to prevent the RN from obtaining the absolute majority of 289 deputies. If it were achieved, the opponents of the far-right party would then face the complex task of forming a majority or an alternative government capable of leading France.
Jordan Bardella has already made it known that he would refuse the post of Prime Minister if he did not have an absolute majority. But if he gets close, he has not ruled out relying on other right-wing MPs to enter Matignon.
