Jean-Yves Le Boulanger, RN candidate in the fifth constituency of Côtes-d’Armor (Lannion-Paimpol), who denied being a “fascist” because he had “not crushed” a “priest of color”, presented his “sincere apologies” on Wednesday.
“I would like to offer my sincere apologies following the comments I made (on Bretagne 5 radio, Editor’s note): they were extremely clumsy and inappropriate,” the candidate said in a press release sent by the departmental secretary of the National Rally.
“The RN leadership informed me of its unreserved condemnation and of a summons before the movement’s national conflict commission. I will comply with its decision and regret my statement,” it is stated.
“I didn’t run him over with my motorcycle.”
“It makes me smile a little when people call me a fascist,” Jean-Yves Le Boulanger said in an interview posted online. “No later than Sunday, I went to a biker rally (…) There was a biker blessing and it was a priest of color who blessed me.”
“So you see, I didn’t run him over with my motorbike,” added the candidate, who won 29.1% of the votes in the first round of the legislative elections.
In the second round, Jean-Yves Le Boulanger will face the outgoing Macronist MP Éric Bothorel (37.8% of the vote, Together for the Republic) and the LFI candidate Marielle Lemaître (30.6%, New Popular Front).
