Cristiano Ronaldo already sees himself at the 2026 World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly keen to play at the 2026 World Cup in North America, despite failing to impress at Euro 2024.

For the first time in his career, the Portuguese forward has failed to score in a major international competition. Having played in his record sixth Euro, Ronaldo was aiming for a second record, that of becoming the first player in history to score in six different editions of the Euro. He came close to the feat in his last game, when Portugal were awarded a penalty in extra time against Slovenia. However, the Al-Nassr superstar wasted the penalty and broke down in tears afterwards.

Ronaldo wants to play in the 2026 World Cup

Ahead of his challenge to Les Bleus, the Portuguese legend’s performances have come under scrutiny, as he is often seen struggling to win aerial duels, something he was a master at in his prime. According to Relevo, the European Championship is unlikely to be Ronaldo’s last dance, as he is hell-bent on playing at the World Cup two years later. There is one record he is still aiming for in the twilight of his career: becoming the first player in history to play and score in six editions of the showpiece competition.
