The French volleyball team, the defending champion, will face Slovenia, Canada and Serbia in the group stages of the Olympic tournament in Paris, a rather lenient draw made on Wednesday.
Les Bleus avoid Italy and Brazil
The team coached by Andrea Giani, placed in pot 1 and group A as the host country, thus avoids as an opponent in pot 2 Italy, reigning world champion, to inherit Slovenia, nevertheless third in the current world ranking.
In pot 3, Canada seems a more affordable opponent than Brazil, who will face the Italians and Poles in group B. France has also inherited Serbia, present in pot 4.
The men’s Olympic volleyball tournament will begin on July 27 and end on August 10. The top two from each of the three groups and the two best third-placed teams will qualify for the quarter-finals.
