Pershing and Bauer Stadiums
Several stadiums in Paris and its suburbs were requisitioned for the 1924 Paris Olympics for the football and rugby tournaments. The first is nestled in the heart of the Bois de Vincennes, just a few meters from INSEP. Founded by the American YMCA (Young People’s Christian Union), several Olympic tournament matches were held there. The idea was to organize inter-allied sports games after the Great War. Then the stadium was given to the American Expeditionary Force, led by General John Pershing, from whom it takes its name. Its enclosure was completely rebuilt in the 1960s to become a multi-sport complex including a baseball field.
