Toni Kroos, it’s really over

Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos has officially retired after his contract expired yesterday.

The 34-year-old has already made his name sing at the Santiago Bernabeu and lifted the La Liga and Champions League trophies in front of the fans at Cibeles, but he said his goodbyes one last time on Instagram.

Kroos posted a picture with the Champions League trophy as the missing piece of his rather large collection. After nine years at the club, combined with his time at Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, Kroos has amassed 23 trophies.

He only lacks one trophy

“Today is officially my last day as a Real Madrid player. It’s weird, but I’ll always be one of you, at Real Madrid. Forever grateful!” The only trophy he lacks in the entirety of European club and international football is three games away. If Kroos can win the Euros, then he will have completed the set, and will bow out with arguably the most impressive final season of a career in recent history at the very least.

His former teammates Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez and Joselu Mato stand in his way. If he manages to pass the Spanish milestone, the Mannschaft will be the big favorite for Euro 2024, under the leadership of Kroos.
