“Yes, I am withdrawing because I do not have a variable geometry principle.” On Monday evening on BFMTV, the outgoing MP, ousted by LFI during the allocation of investitures, Raquel Garrido confirmed that she was withdrawing.
On Sunday, she came third in the 5th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis with 23.65% of the vote, behind Aly Diouara, candidate invested for the New Popular Front (33.1%), and Aude Lagarde (UDI), qualified for a second round with 24.56% of the votes collected.
“We must withdraw together”
Earlier in the day, Raquel Garrido had said she was “ready to withdraw” if Sabrina Ali Benali and Céline Verzeletti, official rebel candidates who came in behind two dissidents, Alexis Corbière and Danielle Simonnet, did the same.
Like the “purged” elected official, these outgoing deputies had not been reinvested by LFI for these legislative elections because they had been critical of the leadership.
“I will no longer be a member of parliament in the coming year and I accept that,” she declared at a press conference, in the presence of the member of parliament Clémentine Autain, reinvested by the rebellious leadership despite her disagreements with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and re-elected in the first round on Sunday evening.
“My position of principle, which is to withdraw, I cannot carry it alone, it would be too unfair. We must withdraw together,” added the outgoing MP to Sabrina Ali Benali (7th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis) and Céline Verzeletti (15th of Paris), acknowledging her defeat in passing.
