Don’s handwritten honest copy of the “American Pie” lyrics is hitting the market through MomentsinTime.com with a $154,000 price ticket. Sure, that is some very wealthy pie.
For the uninitiated … “honest copies” are handwritten lyrics penned by the artist after the unique lyrics sheet is completed. Dan wrote this copy a couple of years ago for a good friend, and it is scribbled throughout 8 sheets of customized parchment.
Whereas there could also be some sticker shock right here, think about this … Don’s authentic lyrics to ‘AP’ bought at a public sale in 2015 for a whopping $1.2 million.
There is a rising collectors marketplace for honest copies, with some already promoting for between $40,000 and $125,000 … together with some Bob Dylan money.
If you give it some thought, any artist can sit down in the present day, write out lyrics for any golden oldie hit and immediately herald additional income!
Don recorded and released “American Pie” approach again in 1971 — his lyrics reference the 1959 airplane crash that killed Buddy Holly, JP “The Massive Bopper” Richardson and Ritchie Valens — and the tune topped the charts within the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
