They are followed by the New Popular Front coalition, the party of the presidential majority, Ensemble, is in third place.
Following the publication of the results, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder of La France Insoumise, told his supporters that the New Popular Front would withdraw its third-place candidates to block the National Rally.
Emmanuel Macron called for a “large, clearly Democratic and Republican gathering for the second round” facing the National Rally.
For the President of the Republic, the high participation shows a desire to “clarify the political situation”.
Re-elected in her constituency, Marine Le Pen calls for “an absolute majority” in the second round. The president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, for his part, presented the vote as “one of the most decisive in the entire history of the Fifth Republic”.
