Ecstasy for England fans stuck back home and abroad as Three Lions tame Slovakia to produce thrilling 2-1 victory in dramatic Euro 2024 clash

England fans are in ecstasy tonight after the Three Lions produced a stunning comeback to beat Slovakia 2-1 after extra time in a dramatic Euro last 16 clash.

Pints of beer were thrown in the air as fans erupted in joy as Jude Bellingham scored a magical overhead kick in the 95th minute to send the game into extra time.

And it got even better for the Three Lions as Harry Kane turned the game on its head as he nodded in Ivan Toney’s flick on within the first minute of the additional 30 and send England through to the quarter-finals and a tie against Switzerland.

It had been a frustrating and tepid display by Gareth Southgate’s men in Gelsenkirchen with the Three Lions staring an embarrassing defeat in the face and being dumped out of the competition after Slovakia took a shock 1-0 lead in the first half.

Student Harriet Jones, 20, who was watching at a Manchester fan zone, summed up the mood of the nation at the final whistle.

‘I’m so happy. I thought we were out and now we’re through. It was amazing. Bring on the next game.’

Electrician James Farrah, 35 said: ‘What an amazing game. I was so depressed and then Bellingham scored a wonder goal. It feels like such a great win.’

Meanwhile, at Boxpark in Wembley, London, Callum, 27, a builder, said it was genuinely amazing.

‘I never doubted England for a second,’ he said. ‘It was always going to come home.’

Dania said of Bellingham’s equaliser: ‘Of course it would be Jude. So amazing. We just scored. I wasn’t expecting it but I’m so relieved.’

Alex, 36, who works in recruitment, said: ‘It was a slow start but then amazing. The whole time there was a small part of me that thought we’d do it but I wasn’t sure.

‘Southgate should’ve made subs earlier on but here we are and it worked. Just unbelievable. Jude’s 21 years old and in the 95th minute he came through. I love him. I just love him.’

James Wootten, 28, said: ‘Most of the game was really terrible and Southgate should’ve made changes earlier on but I can’t complain now because at the very end we came through and made it an amazing match. I’m very very happy.’

Fans jumped up and down and hugged each other as Kane scored to put England ahead.

Beer was thrown in the air and an England bucket hat at Manchester’s Escape to Freight Island.

Hairdresser Sarah Wolstenholme, 24, said: ‘I can’t believe it. I thought we were out. ‘It’s an amazing turnaround. I thought we’d never score and then we get two.’

Postman Jack Holmes, 34, said: ‘It’s amazing. ‘I felt like crying when I thought we were going out and now this. ‘Let’s get another.’

Earlier the optimism of thousands of fans soon turned to shock as wide-mouthed supporters screamed in despair as Ivan Schranz opened the scoring in the 25th minute in the last-16 Euro 2024 clash.

Football fans in Magaluf called for radical team changes if England are to progress to the next stage.

‘There was no formation, no structure. The team is not working. They need some radical changes!’

Meanwhile fans at Wembley’s Boxpark were just as disappointed by Gareth Southgate’s men’s poor showing.

Louis, a fitness centre manager, said: ‘It’s just not an exciting game. Southgate’s got all these good players but doesn’t know what to do with them.

‘He’s so safe. He’s the kind of guy to wear a helmet in his day off. Honestly we should have had [Jose] Mourinho managing. Something has got to change. I actually think Kane is slowing us down.’

While Faye added: ‘We’ve got to make some subs this is ridiculous. I’m still hoping and believing.’

A huge roar went up in a Manchester fan zone as Phil Foden scored – only for fans to groan in desperation as it was chalked off.

Pints of beer were thrown in the air at the Escape to Freight Island when the goal went in.

But there was huge disappointment when it was ruled out for offside.

Fans also held their head in their hands as Slovakia nearly scored again with a long shot after an England error.

‘There’s time for us – I’m so glad he’s brought on Palmer.’

There were huge groans at the Escape to Freight Island fan zone near Manchester Piccadilly station as Slovakia scored.

Fans held their heads in their hands and one threw his pint of beer down in anger.

Builder Zach Brown, 27, said: ‘They’ve been the better side. We’ve disappointed again so far. It’s devastating to think we might go out.

‘If we lose, at least we should go down fighting. Gareth needs to pull his finger out and make changes. Get Gordon on, get Palmer on.’

Shop worker Lisa Harrison, 27, said: ‘I still believe we can do it. It’s only 1-0 and there’s a long way to go.’

Up to 3,000 supporters descended on the Road to Victory fan zone in Manchester city centre at the Diecast venue.
